It's Raining Monday

I'm sure by now, those who follow the blog closely could point out that I forgot my meal plan post last night. I could make excuses about how tired I was after a busy swim meet weekend or I could just say, "I'm sorry."

I'm sorry.

If you were waiting for it; here's the plan:

Monday: tacos
Tuesday: breakfast
Wednesday: Brauts, smashed potatoes, green veggie of choice
Thursday: leftovers
Friday: grilled chicken and veggies (and Mac and cheese for the kiddos)
Saturday: burgers and fries

I've been thinking a lot about recreational sports and activities and how we oversee sporting activities for kids. Have you noticed the egos that are going crazy? It's the adults. Not the kids. Generally speaking, of course.

Many times the people who are getting the most emotional, upset and dramatic about anything that is going on are the ones who are supposed to be "adults". I find this confusing.

Let's try to work on setting an appropriate example of good sportsmanship, modeling appropriate language and losing gracefully.

Here's a few suggestions:

1. Congratulate a parent on their child's good performance, time, etc. (especially if they beat your kid or are on an opposing team.)

2. Cheer for great plays/swims/runs/hits etc. If it's great, it's great!

3. Congratulate the winners of a game/match/race, even if they are not your child/team. Don't complain about the referees, clock, ball, bat, etc.

4. Let the coaches coach and try to say to your child, "I enjoyed watching you play".

5. Thank the referees, coaches, volunteers, etc for their efforts in helping with that event.

6. Pick up your trash. No matter where your contest takes place, do not leave your trash. It's just rude. Seriously.

7. Be mindful of others. If you must complain, because sometimes you just need to whine and get it out, respect small ears. Reserve the more colorful, strong language for after you leave.

8. Remember your company. Similar to number 7; sometimes we forget when we are "in our space" that your guests/hosts, or their friends, may be nearby. Let's not make them feel unwelcomed in that moment of complaint. They make take personally your whining. Maybe you have a solution you can offer later for improving for next time.

9. If you must have your phone, resist emails and focus on what's in front of you. Photograph your child/their team and share it with the team.

10. Encourage your child to thank the coaches, referees and volunteers; when appropriate. We're not talking about kissing up or attempting special favor, just appreciating their time.

Have any others? Please feel free to share in the comments!

Annie's Cast Saga

So, most of you may have not been aware, but about a month ago, Annie tripped over an exersaucers (you know, those round toy chairs for little babies?) and broke a couple bones in her foot.

Remember, this is my competitive swimmer....

Since I am a compassionate mother, we tried a soft cast to begin with...well, no such luck on that fixing things...She got a hard cast about 18 days ago. Since she hasn't been at practice in a while, she was worried that her friends had forgotten her. No such luck, while we were at her brother's soccer game on Saturday, her friends signed her cast and sat and talked with her for most of the game. Happy as a Lark, doesn't even cover it. Her sweet friend however, now has a couple breaks of her own and is in her own boot. We'll see how they turn out!

Yesterday, a rainy Monday morning...aren't those illegal?...she got her cast off and went to school. Poor baby, it's still not quite right. IF it's still hurting after Wednesday, then we'll have to take her back for an MRI.

Swim practice was, well, swimming.

Hopefully we will be done with casting for a while...

Dilly baby!

It has taken me waaaay to long to post but, baby Dilly has arrived!

On June 2nd at 12:37am we welcomed Lillian Daphne Kannady as baby number 4! She is such a beauty, brown hair and blue eyes.

Aaand, mommy's finally gotten back to crafting! I made 2 burp cloths for a a friend, a changing pad for Dilly, a placemat (with 5 more to come), and I'm in the process of finishing a quilt!

I also went over to a new sewing store here called "sewMemphis". The shop is super cute and they're going to hang one of my sew-nifty prep boards in their store and help sell them!

Geoff and Jonas had a great time with baseball and got to have a win for the last game. Annie recently had a swim meet and dropped time in two of her events. Lissy is cruising and celebrated her first birthday on June 18!!!

What a busy time these past 3 weeks have been for us all!

23 weeks today

So, today I am 23 weeks pregnant with baby #4. Geoff has taken Annie to Knoxville for the Southeastern Swimming Championship Meet. You can follow live meet results and see how everyone from tigers is doing. Below is a picture of my belly. Feel free to compare it to this time last year. I haven't been taking as many pictures, ok, I haven't taken any pictures.

Jonas and I get to have a mother-son weekend. The plan so far is zoo in the afternoon on saturday and a movie after that...we'll see how much we do! Cleaning and cooking are on the agenda for tonite, though if he asks to go out to eat, I truly might say yes.

Now that it has been 2 full months since my mom died, I still feel slightly lost. Thankfully, this weekend is the last weekend that I have to spend at her old house. Things will all be out and we can move forward in the process of grieving and loss. I feel like she is kind of here, but not really. It's like when you have a word on the tip of your tongue and you just can't think of the word. I feel like she knows everything that's going on, but at the same time I want to tell her.I know somewhere that she is safe and happy and all those wonderful things, but it just feels so wrong to have her watching over her "3 sweet angels" rather than here with us.

SES Championships

Of course we are all super excited to be heading to knoxville this weekend for Annie to swim in the Southeastern Championship Swim Meet!!!

She made her cuts this weekend in 2 events; 50 & 100 breaststroke. I think it was her little sister Lissa, that really motivated her.

Go Tigers!

4.15.2011

It's been a month....

Somehow that seems pathetic to me...

Updates:

1. San Francisco Trip was AWESOME! I love visiting that city. I will have lots of pictures to post in a bit, but let's just sum it up to say there are some cities that are just wonderful to visit and San Fran is definitely one of them!

2. Kids are growing and doing well! We started baseball, soccer, softball and the long course swim season... Phew! I'm worn out just listing all of that! The first few soccer games have gone ok, Jonas still has a lot to learn about the game, but he's trying! First long course swim meet, Annie improved on her times, which is good. Baseball practice and softball practice started off rocky for Jonas and Annie, Geoff (of course) is doing fine with his softball team...go figure! :)

3. Homebirth: Well, due to some changes happening between my midwives and (finally) having the full understanding of the financial implications, we will not be having a homebirth afterall. I am so incredibly bummed... We will be delivering at St.Francis in Bartlett...I will fully expect my friends to make a total nusance of themselves! Flowers and those crazy door wreaths are all welcome! (The more the better!)

4. School: Geoff is set to graduate in DECEMBER !!!!! Yeah! Very excited about that!!! After I interview, I should be officially accepted to the EdD program in Instruction, Curriculum and Leadership for the fall!

5. Maternity pics round 2 will be taken this coming sunday :) so those will go on the blog once they're available...

6. Baby Shower!!! So excited that I have the most awesomest friends in the world and Jennifer is hosting the shower!!! Orignially, she and our good friend Amber were hosting together, but Amber's dad recently suffered a trauma and she is returning to California to be with him. I am sad that she's gone.

7. Home News: Well, Geoff has gotten ALL the stumps out of the beds where the giant bushes were...I'll post pics in a bit...and his dad is working on moving to Memphis! Big Changes! Can't wait to get on the garden!!! Next year should be interesting and the year after, hopefully, we'll have some decent crops.

Only 27 days of school left after today...not that I'm counting down or anything....

More later!

Babysteals!!!!!

So, I was wrong yesterday....yesterday's babysteal was not the Klean Kanteen....that was front the night before! (The babysteal changes at 9am and at 9pm) Yesterday's babysteal was a pack of gdiapers!!! Which I totally took as a sign! And of course I scooped one up!
But then last nite, I couldn't sleep....and for whatever reason, I still haven't figured it out, I don't get the email blast about the 9pm steal...Well, I couldn't sleep so I got on Babysteals and scooped up a super cute nursing cover. (Did I mention that we don't have anything for this baby?) This cover by Andee Lew, is one of the cutest things ever...and one I have totally drooled over on their site! Well, on babysteals last nite is was 50% of it's list price!!!! YEAH!!!

In other kid news...I'm getting ready to make corn salsa tonite, which I will post the recipe for and of course a picture! This is for part of the dinner for Friday nite's swim meet. Annie will be swimming in the Gabrielle Rose Classic, which is hosted by Memphis Tiger Swimming. She is super excited!!! Geoff and I are too, but since she's been really working hard on her times, she's probably a little more excited than we are...especially considering whenever there is a home meet....we have to work! LOL!

Today Jonas is going to the doctor to hopefully be cleared to go to school. He has been home for the past 2 days, and let me tell you, working with him on all of his homework is A TON of work! I don't know how they do it! I thought teaching High School was hard...but last nite, it seemed easier than what I did with my son!!! YIKES!

Here's the Corn Dip:

2 cans mexicorn (drained)
8 oz sour cream (I use fat free)
8 oz mayo (I use real)
12 oz shredded cheddar (I use real)
1 Tbs garlic POWDER (not salt)
1 Tbs Accent
~1 bunch scallions chopped (I use the greens also)
1 small jar chopped pimiento (and I chop finer)
Jalapenos to tasted (chopped fine)

I usually mix the mexicorn and cheese together in one bowl.  I then mix everything else together in a smaller bowl, which allows it all to mix together uniformly. I then add that into the mexicorn/cheese mixture and mix
together.

I make no less than one day ahead - it gives all the flavors time to blend. Anything more than 1 day, and I'd eat it all.

Enjoy and have fun.

Cup of coffee kind of morning

So, I had a wonderful dinner last night with my family after Annie's swim practice at Memphis Tiger Swimming. We went to Los Compadres on poplar avenue and enjoyed the evening thoroughly! However, as anyone with children under 1o should know, when dinner starts at 815pm the next morning is going to be a little rough if you have to stay on your regular schedule.

So, this morning was ROUGH!

But, once I got to work and my day got moving things got better...nothing a cup of coffee can't solve!

Thankfully, I had already done all my prep for class today, so all I have to do is take roll and keep things moving. Later, I'll meet with my Assistant Principal to see how my evaluation went and then tonite is dinner at my parents' house with my sister, her boyfriend and his parents. Should be a great start to the weekend!
